Laser Hair Removal Urban Skin Care Clinic

What is Laser Hair Removal and how does it work?

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair. A laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the hair follicle that produces hair. This damage inhibits future hair growth. Here's the cool part, the laser only damages the hair follicle and disables it from producing hair in the future and doesn't affect the skin at all.

Who is an ideal candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Remember skin tone isn't a factor here as the Aerolase Neo elite laser that is available at Urban skincare clinic is a 1064 YAG laser which is safe on all skin tones, however, the hair being treated has to have pigment (dark brown or black). Laser hair removal is not effective on grey, white or red hair.

How many sessions are required to achieve desired results?

Everyone's body, hair type, and hair growth is different. But on average, most people need about six to eight sessions at four weeks apart. And you have to stay as close to that four weeks apart schedule as you can because we're trying to catch the hairs on the right hair growth cycle.

See, our hair grows in three different stages. And not all of our hair grows at the same rate. Laser hair removal is effective when the hair is in the active growth stage still attached to the hair follicle. And that is why you need more than one session. Every time you receive a laser hair removal treatment we're able to get about 15% reduction.

Are you curious about how laser hair removal feels?

I always tell my clients that if you've ever waxed before, getting laser hair removal is a walk in the park. It feels like warmth and a very faint, pinprick like sensation. It is not painful and there's no downtime afterwards.

How should you prepare for a Laser Hair Removal treatment?

This is important. You want the area being treated shaved, with no stubble, and nothing on your skin (no lotions). What will happen is if there is stubble, the laser will see the hair that's above the surface of the skin and singe it and won't travel down to the hair follicle.

What are the signs of successful laser hair removal treatments?

Okay, this is the exciting part. So gradually, I'd say after two to three sessions, although my clients are noticing these changes happening even after one session. you'll notice your hair grows back slower, it'll become finer and thinner. And you'll notice bald spots your hair growth will be patchy which is such a good sign and such a good feeling you can see your hair reducing.

What should you do after laser hair removal treatment?

There is no downtime after a laser hair removal treatment. However, just to be on the safe side, I always recommend staying out of direct sun exposure.

Also, keep in mind unlike with waxing, where you have to let your hair grow and walk around with long hair under your arms before you get a wax. With laser hair removal you can shave all you want if you choose to remove the hair, shaving is your best friend. And if you are someone who gets razor bumps and ingrown hairs (I certainly used to get them), laser hair removal treatments actually helps with those problems as well. Your skin will feel smoother over time.
